Through my paintings I stand before you-vulnerable.
My paintings come from deep within me.
Their light and movement are my smiles and joys.
Their darkness and heaviness are my worries and concerns.
Their stories behind them, and in them, are my history.
As my paintings speak to you, so I am present with you.
Look deeply and listen and let my stories blend with yours.

As I worked with India ink, I decided to explore its effects applying it on wet watercolor paper. The first attempts were done in black and white which were random bursts on of ink exploding on the white surface resembling fireworks. Later, I began manipulating the ink by rotating the paper letting the medium spread on its own over the moist areas. Abstract shapes began to appear as the various values combined and the technique I call “ink bleeds” was born.
Eventually, I started to experiment with color bringing about exquisite effects that directed my creative energy. In the developing stages, works did not include any other elements. As other subject matter was interpreted, rough lines in black that also bled into the surface were added to create more definite shapes. It took an emotional a trip back home to Buenos Aires, Argentina and a landscape en plein air for the technique to fully emerge.
Since then, “ink bleeds” have evolved into abstractions which are produced using a very bright palette that includes yellow, magenta and blue. The primary colors mix on the paper creating an array of contrasting hues that vary in intensity. Directing the medium with a brush allows for the work to become more representational.

I think of my work as a personal approach to realism. I enjoy depicting landscapes, cityscapes, architectural details, and botanicals. I generally choose my subject matter from local scenes and from my travels abroad. I take a sketch book and do quick ink sketches as I am traveling. The local scenes of Westfield, Cranford and Summit and views of Fire Island, the Berkshires and New England generally start as photographs. I work from my pen and ink sketches or the digital images I have taken with my camera. I started working in oils, but recently my main focus has been on my watercolored pen and inks.
I begin a watercolored pen and ink with a line drawing in ink. Next I add the watercolors to define contour, dimension, and the season and time of day. I love exploring the influence of light and shadow on color. For me, a favorite detail in my work might be a small glowing triangle of color or a shadow created by the sun on a perfect day
The immediacy of watercolored pen and inks has helped me combine my love for intricate detail with a freer more gestural feeling. On first look my paintings appear very precise, but upon closer inspection every line is a little askew and the colors are intensified to evoke the feel of a location. If someone says to me, “your painting reminds me of how I felt when I was there” I know I have been successful.

I enjoy exploring many art forms. Working out of doors in nature creating my plein air pieces are a joy to me after having spent most of my artist life in studio learning, teaching and making art.
To have the freedom of personal time to travel and explore is critical to the artist for inspiration.I look at my journey as one to enjoy and experience. To seek out new places and professional connections whether they be artist groups or art organizations, there is always something new to experience.
The field of art to me has been a lifelong one that continues to provide opportunities to share my work, be acknowledged and appreciate the efforts of those with whom I share this common thread.
Creating and enjoying art in all its forms is a lifelong journey. It is only when you find yourself totally immersed in a work of art that you can truly feel you have found a piece of yourself.

Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ – just a ‘stones throw’ from New York City – I have visited the city’s world class museums and galleries from my early days to the present. Always keen to take on new form of expression, I continue to advance my knowledge and expertise on a wide variety of art materials and technical equipment.
Along my journey, I have touched many young lives and shared my expertise and passion for art with my students. Many have gone on to work in the field and have succeeded beyond my expectations. I continue to be involved in area art galleries, working alongside fellow artists and participating in workshops led by professional artisans and artists in area associations.
