STATEMENT
I have always expressed myself through visual images: sometimes abstract and sometimes representational. I just feel comfortable either way. As I have matured I have found it more important to follow my strongest emotional perceptions.
I have always felt the need to be visual. I see in line, color and shape. Today I consciously think this way. It is how I am most comfortable.
I spend many hours trying to work out how to convey my messages. I most of all love what I do in trying to communicate.
I am most happy when I connect with my viewers. So feel free to let me know how you perceive my language. Hopefully I will help you see the familiar scenes in a new way.
BIO/CV
I have always been interested in art since I saw what magic I could do with crayons when I was little.
I majored in Art a Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina and received a graduate degree in Art from Columbia University. I also did postgraduate work at the Mason Gross School of Arts in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
I became a public school art teacher, a career I pursued for 38 years. Marriage and two children diminished my output but I always drew or painted. My drawing books go with me to meetings – everywhere.
My influence at the University of North Carolina was abstract expDontonism. Don’t look for gloomy prognostications in my abstract art. You will discover joy in the dancing colored circles and forms in my abstract paintings.
Trips to Maine created an interest in the charming Maine harbors and flowers, flowers, flowers. The New Jersey shores. The Delaware and Raritan Canal, the New Jersey mountains, where my daughter and grandchildren live, and Lake Nelson, where I live, are local scenic interests.
Delight in what I see is always evident in my work – whether done in pencil, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic, tempura, or oil. My love of sheer form and color from my abstract expressionism influence is evident in my more realistic renderings.
My paintings and sculpture have been exhibited at the Munson Gallery, New Haven, Ct.; the Ceres Gallery, New York City; the International Wild Fowl ShMD, Ocean City, Md.; and at many one woman shows as well as group local shows in New Jersey.
I am a past member of the New Jersey Printmaking Council and the Edison Art Society (Edison Artist of the Month – September, 2002. the Suburban Artist’s Guild (Corresponding Secretary 2002 – 2004, Membership Chairperson 2005 -2006), the Somerset Art Association and the Garden State Watercolor Society – Associate Member, the New Jersey Art Association – Associate Member, the Pine Shores Art Association, and the New Jersey Watercolor Society – Associate Member. Today I show with The Contempary Art Group. I have won awards for both my paintngs and sculptured decoys. My works are present in many private collections. I continue to teach part/time at the Piscataway Township Senior Center.
