STATEMENT
Born in Bremen/Germany, currently residing in Morris Plains, NJ.
Following a professional career in ocean transportation, specifically in the chemical tanker industry, Gerd took a course in screen printing at the Printing Council of New Jersey in Branchburg, NJ, during the second half of 2011.
While Gerd’s art (acrylic paint on paper) is often nostalgic in its subject matter, each image is created with the intent to jump right off the paper into the onlooker’s eyes. The use of a bright color scheme aids towards this goal. The sense of direct contact with the viewer provides the images with an air of spontaneity, making them feel contemporary and unique.
Gerd’s oeuvre is very much influenced by the works of Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana and to some extent also by Franz Marc.
